If people don't think about specialist things like a ringtone, anything they want that's clearable, they need to think of it in terms of a special prop that you need. Specialised sound are like that, you need to ask for them to be manufactured first.
Everybody seems to want to put in the door slams and gunshots and explosions, but if you build up the sound by blocking out the scenes in terms of atmosphere and different levels set against each other, these are the kinds of fun things you get to do.
My least favourite sound cliche is that when you see a cat, you have to hear a cat. As if you wouldn't know it was a cat!
[As a sound dubbing mixer in film] a lot of what you are trying to do is to disguise the process. If you don't it well, they don't know you've done it well, because you've done a good job by concealing it.
I would imagine that if you could understand Morse code, a tap dancer would drive you crazy.

I have always felt that laughter in the face of reality is probably the finest sound there is and will last until the day when the game is called on account of darkness. In this world, a good time to laugh is any time you can.

Deep inside I feel that this world we live in is really a big, huge, monumental symphonic orchestra. I believe that in its primordial form all of creation is sound and that it's not just random sound, that it's music.
